The Accuser

I hear him.

Do you hear him?

The Accuser.  Satan is called the Accuser right in the beginning of the book of Job.  Satan is also called the Father of Lies in the Bible because he is a professional liar.

He whispers lies into my ears, accusing me of bad things I have done.  He accuses me of the wrong and hurtful things I have said.  Yes, I did those things and I said those things.

But  I know – and Satan knows – that all of these bad things I’ve done and said in the past, present and future are forgiven.  I was forgiven for everything when I accepted the free gift of grace offered by God through the death of Jesus on the Cross.  Jesus paid the price.  It’s done.

Why does Satan keep trying to make me forget that?  Why does he continually try to get me to live in guilt instead of the freedom that God gave me because I believe and trust in Jesus?

Why?  Because Satan doesn’t like my freedom in Christ.  He doesn’t like the fact that the Holy Spirit helps me ignore him.

So Satan whispers his lies….

hoping that I will listen and put myself in chains of regret, bitterness, unforgiveness and guilt.  Jesus died to release me from those chains.  That’s the truth.  So I’m not listening to the Accuser.

I am committed to listening to the words of my Father whose voice, when I listen, overpowers the whispers of the evil one.  My Father speaks to me with love…

and patience,

and grace.

I listen to him and I know the truth.  When I know the truth, I can live in the truth.

The Accuser can just go somewhere else with his lies.  No one is listening here.

Thank you, Abba Father.

I Know Who You Are

They had no doubts.

Whenever a member of Satan’s team encountered Jesus, they knew exactly who he was.

i-know-who-you-areI know who you are – the Holy One of God!” cried the demon as Jesus cast it out of the man in Mark 1:23.

Every time a demon saw Jesus, they declared that he was the Son of God.

They knew about his power.

They knew about his perfection.

And they knew who his Father was.

They also knew all about the righteous anger Jesus had for the evil they were creating and encouraging on earth.  So they were afraid of him.

They knew the truth.

Do you know the truth?

Have you accepted the fact that Jesus is the Son of God?

Do you believe in his power to redeem you and set you free?

The demons had no doubts.  We shouldn’t have any either.

Thank you, Lord Jesus!

It Explains So Much!

He is roaming the earth…going back and forth on it.

He has a very large team of spirits who watch us….figuring out when we are weak so they can whisper lies and temptations into our ears.Sept 8 2014 it explains so much

They tell us just enough truth to make it sound good and then they twist some lies into it.

These evil spirits help us rationalize away our sins of our lives.

They help us blame others instead of taking personal accountability for what we say and what we do.

They make bad things look ok (as long as we don’t think about it or pray about it too much).

By appealing to our rebellious side with its sinful desires, they can make darkness look like light and selfishness look like self-preservation.

When we read the book of Job, we get a front row seat to the spiritual battle which is going on right now in the heavens.  It starts to make sense that several of the angels who are mentioned in the Bible by name are leaders of the heavenly army.  They are in a constant battle for us – defending us and pushing away the darkness.

I’m sure Satan doesn’t like it whenever we read the Bible but especially the book of Job.  We read how he challenged God directly and was SO WRONG about Job.  I’m sure Satan loved the parts where Job’s friends were so confused.  They thought this was all happening to Job because of unconfessed sin in his life.  Wrong!

And Satan really liked it when Job’s wife gave up, told Job to curse God and die.

Satan won a couple of battles but he lost the war.  And that pattern will be repeated over and over until the end of time.  We see evidence of Satan winning some battles today – child pornography, homelessness, human trafficking, starvation and terrorism, etc.

But he will not win the war!

Because Jesus has already defeated Satan!

Jesus is victorious!  And through faith in him, we also become victorious!

When we are obedient to him, he can help us win our day to day battles with Satan’s team.  Through our obedience, he is also able to continue the process of transformation – turning our sinful desires into a stronger desire for the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

When we put our trust in Jesus, we are in a win-win situation!

Thank you, dear Jesus!

Surrounding Us

We are surrounded by them.  When we are afraid and need help, we just need to ask God to open our eyes.June 10 they are surrounding us

When God opened Elisha’s servant’s eyes, he saw that the hills around them were filled with the Army of God.

God promises the same to us.  He is always with us and his army is ready to go to battle for us.  Sometimes they are already in the midst of a battle for us and we just don’t know it.

Other times we know it.  When our lives are really messed up with conflict everywhere we turn, we can stand firm.  We know God and his army are fighting for us.

Sometimes things happen that are clearly an attack of Satan.  A couple of years ago in my office several very weird things started happening and mean, name-calling emails started flying around from ‘anonymous’ sources.  In the midst of it, Satan showed me very clearly that he was behind it all.  This was his plan.  He thought he was taking charge.

Somehow, the fact that Satan was so blatant about it made it easier for me to remember that the battle was God’s, not mine.  And God worked it all out for my good – just like he has promised.

God and his army stand ready to defend us – we just need to open our eyes.
