Ready.

Equipped.

Satan is plotting against me every day – watching for the weaknesses in my defense.  Satan is whispering in your ear – do you hear him?  Telling you you’re a loser or encouraging you to make decisions that are going to create negative consequences for you.

It’s a battle.

God has given you and I real armor in order to fight this battle.  He teaches us about how to use it through what Paul tells us in Ephesians 6:

The Belt of Truth needs to be buckled around our waist.  This is what we’re working on right now as we read God’s word – knowing and living the truth.  All the lies swirling around me are not going to change my thinking when I know the Truth.

The Breastplate of Righteousness needs to be in place – protecting our hearts.  I know the right thing to do because I know the Truth. Through the power of the Holy Spirit living within me, I can live in a close relationship with God, never wandering, always feeling his presence.

We must put on the the sandals of peace – always ready to share the Good News of Salvation.  The only real peace any of us will ever find here on earth is in a relationship with Jesus.

We carry our Shield of Faith with us everyday so we can deflect the flaming arrows coming at us from Satan and his army.  He’ll try to  distract me or harm me but my faith will keep me safe and steady.

We put on the Helmet of Salvation to protect our minds from the confusion, anger and evil which surround us.  My perspective is very different from the culture around me because the Spirit of God lives within me.

The Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God.  When we know God’s Word, it is a supernatural weapon for good in our world. Satan has already lost the war.  And when I know and use God’s Word in my thinking, decisions, actions and speech, Satan is reminded of his defeat and he retreats.  Every time.

I used to think that the Sword of the Spirit was my only offensive weapon. I thought the rest were defensive. Now I consider the sandals of peace to be offensive. The Good News of Salvation has power in itself. When I speak or write the message of salvation, the Holy Spirit is unleashed in those words, attacking the schemes of the evil one in the lives of the people who hear it. 

I also consider my Shield of Faith to be offensive. When I pray for others, my shield stretches out to cover them from the flaming arrows of the evil one that are coming their way. When I share my faith story of walking closely with God for a long time, my Shield of Faith reaches out to cover the hearts of those who listen.

We must equip ourselves and be ready to fight the battle each day.

Sword Fighting Class- Hostile to God

We are being blessed as we memorize Romans 8.  This is a tough chapter for me – lots of repetition.  But its starting to stick!  Thank you, God!

“Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of Life set me free from the law of sin and death.  What the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin sacrifice.  And so he condemned sin in sinful man in order that the righteous requirements of the law be fully met in us who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the spirit.”Romans 8; 1-9

“Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what nature desires but those who live in accordance with the spirit have their minds set on what the spirit desires.  The mind of sinful man is death but the mind controlled by the spirit is life and peace”

And now the next verse –

“The sinful mind is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law nor can it do so.”

Hostile to God.  Cold, hard words.

But true.

Those who have not accepted the redemption offered by Jesus do not have God’s spirit living within them and their minds are hostile to God.  They have not been renewed.  They have not been reborn.

This explains so much of the culture around us.

Battles on Every Side

We all have our own battles to fight every day.

Relationship issues….

Money problems……

Health struggles…..

Work situations….

And more.

Every day.March 29 2016 battles on every side

As we read through 1 Chronicles, we see the Israelites fighting physical battles against their enemies on all sides of them.  They went to battle with their spears and swords.

We also have a sword to help us fight our battles – the Sword of the Spirit.  God’s word.  The Bible.

God’s truth pierces through the lies and sin of our cultures, helping us forge ahead on the good path God has planned out for us.

March 29 2016 battles on every side bThe Bible is our map for today, tomorrow and the rest of our time here on earth.  God lights our way as we read and meditate on his revelation to us.  As we memorize God’s word, he is arming us with powerful weapons that he can use to bring us victory.

God wants us to have victory in our lives.

And he can give us victory.

Are we giving him the room and authority in our lives to do that?

Please give us victory Abba Father.

The Battle

We are under constant attack.

Satan and his army are always on the offense – looking for any weakness in our armor.Oct 9 2015 the battle

Plotting against us.

We read about Nehemiah’s strategy for dealing with the attacks of those who were opposed to rebuilding Jerusalem’s wall and we see how this strategy can work for us today as well.

While half of the men worked on the rebuilding the wall, the other half guarded the workers with shields, spears and armor.  Those who carried the materials worked with one hand and held their weapon ready in the other.

They protected each other.

They provided a shield for those doing the main work – those who were working with 2 hands.

They carried their weapons with them while they worked.

This same strategy will work for us today.  God has given us his armor of truth and righteousness.  He has given us the mighty sword of his Word.  He gives us the awesome privilege of interceding for others through prayer.

All of these weapons are available to us as we battle Satan’s evil attacks on us and other workers of God.

Providing a shield for others.

Strengthening each other’s armor.

Joining together in battle.

And diligently carrying our own sword.  Maintaining our own armor.

So Satan doesn’t get a toehold.

We know Satan is already defeated.  He has lost the war.

It’s time that we all help him realize that 🙂

Always Ready……

Prepared.

Equipped.

Because our enemies are plotting against us every day – watching for the weaknesses in our defense.

When we read about the Israelites in Nehemiah, they were prepared for a battle.  They were also rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem.   Half of them did the rebuilding while the other half stood with their spears, shields and armor ready.

They had heavy, bulky, real armor.

We have real armor as well.  It isn’t as heavy as what the Israelites had but it’s much more effective.  Paul gives us the details of our spiritual armor in Ephesians 6:

The Belt of Truth is buckled around our waist.  This is what we’re working on right now as we read God’s word – knowing and living the truth.

The Breastplate of Righteousness is in place – protecting our hearts.

We wear the sandals of peace – always ready to share the Good News of Salvation.

Our Shield of Faith helps us everyday to deflect the flaming arrows coming at us from Satan and his army.

The Helmet of Salvation protects our minds from the lies which surround us.

The Sword of the Spirit is the only offensive weapon we need.  Satan has already lost the war.  And when we know and live and use the Word of God, Satan is reminded of his defeat and he retreats.  Every time.
