Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane (pictures) praying in anguish over what was going to happen to him and, not far away, his disciples were sleeping.
When Jesus found them sleeping, he told them to, ‘Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.’
Well, that explains a lot.
That explains why we are sometimes so wimpy – so weak.
Why we want to love God with all of our hearts but suddenly find ourselves – once again – totally concentrated on our will, not God’s will.
It’s a constant struggle. Our conversations are filled with ‘ I think’, ‘I want’, ‘I feel’.
We’re weak.
And Jesus gives us a solution to this problem – watch and pray.
Watch our behavior and compare it to the role model Jesus set for us.
And pray.
When we seek God, we will always find him. He has promised us that.
And he has all the answers.
Not us.
We’re weak. We know it. Jesus knows it.
We need to watch and pray.
Thank you, dear Jesus.
