How Can I Know the Way?

How do I figure out my next step?

How do I know who to believe?

How do I decide which way to go?

These are all tough questions with important answers.

Thomas asked Jesus this same question after Jesus told him he was going away to prepare a place for the disciples.  Thomas replies, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus replied, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.”

Jesus is the way.

I’m not going to choose the right path without him.  I’m not going to know what to believe unless I know the Truth.  I’m going to wander and end up places I don’t want to be if I don’t follow the Way.

It’s just that simple –

and that complicated.

I need to commit each day to following him,

commit each hour to believing in him,

and I need to commit each minute to trusting him if I really want to know the Way.

Please guide each of us in the right Way, Abba Father.

  1. Amen…things that stay on my mind are that we must keep our minds on one thing or we will each be like a sheep too close to the fence and a wolf can far too easily devour us. We cannot stray away. We have to stay near our Father. We are easily deceived if we take our eyes off Jesus. We need to all realize that not one of us is so great and righteous in ourselves that we are immune to this happening to us. We are distracted easily and constantly these days. Bombarded with many things from every direction.

    Colossians 3:1-2
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

    Isaiah 26:3
3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

One day I was driving to work and it was dark outside and early in the morning. 25 mile drive so great prayer time. I was listening to music and worshiping and thinking about the love of Jesus. A song came on that I had heard many times and for some reason that morning this song was penetrating my thick skull. lol This morning I heard these words for the first time. It were as though Jesus and reached down from heaven and lifted my chin and was literally speaking directly to me! To this day I remember that moment! I remember it moved me so deeply. It was so profound. I remember I just began sobbing as Jesus was revealing something to me in such an intimate way.

(I will only but the one part in the comment and it is the last line.)(I will add all to the end in case someone does not know it and wants to read all of it.)

Why are you striving these days?
Why are you trying to earn grace?
    Why are you crying?
Let me lift up your face, just don’t turn away

So, the last line that is the part that I heard so loud and clear that morning was…”Let me lift up your face, just don’t turn away”. Again, how true is that? We are to keep looking to Him! The minute we look away we WILL be distracted.

At the beginning of this year…my journal has the date 4/3/2017.
As I read and studied and thought about a little deeper the following passage.

Matthew 7:13-15 (I will put the verses here and then my notations and thoughts after.)

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

These are some of the thoughts I had.
    *These are directions.
*Tells us which gate we need to look for in order to “enter”.
*Tells us few find it…which means we have to be looking for it, seeking Him and His ways.
*Speaks of wide gate and broad way that leads to destruction.
*Speaks of narrow and straight leads to life.
*Jesus speaks of false prophets dressed in sheeps clothing.
I think about all the religions not teaching the word of God and telling everyone that there are many ways to God and we KNOW that is a lie! Many people call themselves Christians and yet they are deceived if they are not following what the word of God tells us. Are they only listening to what their teachers are saying? Are they comparing what they are taught or being told to what scripture says? Are they being led astray by wolves in sheeps clothing?

I said these scriptures in Matthew 7 were like directions.
It is like (my parable…and therefore just the way I thought about it that particular day I journaled).
A big group of so called Christians were heading out to a gathering. We all knew the name of the street that we were going to. Many just assumed they would know where to go when they got there. So many headed to the same place so who needs the directions. A few did bring their directions but most sadly did not. No one gave it a second thought. They all just chatted in their cars as they all went to the well known street. As they began arriving and turned onto the street they noticed that a lot was going on here. They expected to simply know exactly where to go. No one had the house number. No one had a phone number. OHHHH they noticed the WIDE GATE, the long wide driveway that most of the cars had been turning into! YEP…YEAH…THIS MUST BE THE PLACE!! There were a few cars that had their directions, the word of God. They knew to look for the narrow and the straight gate. 7:14 says that because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. BUT WHY some might ask? Does the LORD God not want us to find Him, to find the way? Not at all…but we must seek Him. We must KNOW Him. If we know Him then we know His word. We follow His directions. Those who don’t really know Him are just following the crowds.

Another way to think on it…. We have a “family” gathering to go to. We know where the house is. Because it is our “family”, we know that in order to go inside they ALWAYS use the straight and narrow gate. You know, the one around the back of the house. All those who saw all the cars out front figured that this must be the house! We are here! Yet, they keep trying to get entrance by way of the wide broad gate. It did not take them where they expected it would. Why? Because they did not read the directions. They did not really KNOW the Father. They did not KNOW that there was ONLY ONE WAY IN and that was by way of Jesus Christ.

Sorry this was so long… Your blog just made me think of all of this. I will now put all the lyrics to that song right here.
God bless all my brothers and sisters…”just don’t turn away”!

Why are you striving these days?
Why are you trying to earn grace?
    Why are you crying?
Let me lift up your face, just don’t turn away

Why are you looking for love?
Why are you still searching as if I’m not enough?
To where will you go child?
Tell me where will you run, to where will you run?

’cause I’ll be by your side wherever you fall
In the dead of night whenever you call
And please don’t fight these hands that are holding you
    My hands are holding you

Look at these hands at my side
They swallowed the grave on that night
When I drank the world’s sin
So I could carry you in and give you life
    I wanna give you life

And I’ll be by your side wherever you fall
In the dead of night whenever you call
And please don’t fight these hands that are holding you
    My hands are holding you

Here at my side wherever you fall
In the dead of night whenever you call
And please don’t fight these hands that are holding you
    My hands are holding you

‘Cause I, I love you, I want you to know
That I, yeah I love you, I’ll never let you go
    No, no

And I’ll be by your side wherever you fall
In the dead of night whenever you call
And please don’t fight these hands that are holding you
    My hands are holding you

Here at my side wherever you fall
In the dead of night whenever you call
And please don’t fight these hands that are holding you
    My hands are holding you

    Here at my side
    My hands are holding you

  2. It was great because of what you wrote, and then I read it yesterday, it made me think about what I had written. I began to dig back into 2 of my journals looking for that particular one in order to reread what I had written that day. Was I even remembering it correctly?
As I looked through pages it reminded me of many other things written. I reread prayers and many were not asking for anything but simply praising our Father in Heaven and thanking Him for EVERYTHING. Asking for Him to never let me go nor give up on me. Asking that He continues to mold me and change me to be more like Him. Remove all the wickedness from my heart. As Deuteronomy 30:6 says…
    Deuteronomy 30:6 KJVS
And the Lord thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.

Even says why…so that we might live.
Jesus backs up this statement with…

    Matthew 22:37 KJVS
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

It is such a good thing to look back over your notes and be reminded of things Jesus has shown us in the past. Often we are reminded of answered prayer that we had maybe even forgotten or maybe did not realize at the time that it was answered. I was blessed yesterday by digging into my journals.
